GRAFTING - All You Need to Know // (INJERTOS)

Did you know that your favorite mango or avocado varieties are NOT grown by seed sowing? Actually, most popular plants and fruit trees are grown by grafting. We are hosting our Annual Grafting workshop at Ricardo’s Nursery this coming Saturday, May 21, 2022!

We will have 2 classes – one in English@10AM and one in Spanish@2PM.

Grafting allows you to maintain desirable characteristics like color, texture, smell, taste, size, etc. to be consistent from one plant to the next. Not only that, but grafting is the FASTEST way of growing popular, desirable varieties of fruiting trees & flowering shrubs on a large scale.

Plants have a variety of propagation methods like grafting, cutting & layering, but we choose grafting because they respond very well to grafting. Another very cool facet of grafting is that multiple varieties of a fruit can be grafted on single stock plant and produce a tree known as a fruit cocktail.

Both fruiting trees such as Mango, Apples, Stone Fruits and Guavas can be grafted in addition to flowering shrubs like Hibiscus, Roses, and Bougainvillea varieties.

With grafting, you would be able to have many colors of bougainvillea growing from one plant after grafting. You would also be able to have many varieties of mango on one tree when grafting fruiting trees. This is called a cocktail! 

Some other advantages of grafting includes: Growth Speed! Grafting makes It much quicker than growing a whole new plant.

This means grafting saves time, as well as money and space. Grafting can also help with plant repair: it lets you repair damage to existing plants or trees from sunburn or physical damage.In addition, and maybe most importantly, pollination: Some varieties of fruiting trees need to cross-pollinate with another fruit tree or they won't be productive. Grafting allows you to have multiple varieties on one tree so that you will never have that issue, and grow any plant you’d like with success!
