Full sun-part shade; low water, but also grows well in moist soils. Bushy perennial from Mexico branches from the base with reddish stems bearing narrow 2-4 inch long green leaves that arise from underground spreading rhizomes. Fast growing to 2-3ft tall and spreading to 5ft. At the tip of each leafy stem are borne the showy 2 inch long loose clusters of red tubular flowers that have flared yellow-orange throats. Blooms from spring through fall. A great plant mixed in the meadow, bank planting, borders, or large container. Good for erosion control. Attracts hummingbirds.
