Full sun or shade; low water. Native to China and Japan. Slow to moderate growth to 6-8ft tall, 3-4ft wide.
Leaves are divided into many leaflets shaped like pointed ovals. Foliage emerges pinkish and bronzy red, then turns to soft light green; it takes on purple and bronze tints in fall and often turns fiery crimson in winter. Pinkish white or creamy white blossoms in loose, erect, 6-12in. clusters bloom at branch ends in late spring or early summer, followed by shiny red berries.
Makes a light, airy-looking hedge, screen, or tub plant. Good for bonsai and in narrow, restricted spaces. Dramatic with night lighting.
