Full sun; average water. Upright evergreen shrub to 4-10ft tall and wide with slightly arching branches. Light green leaves with bright golden yellow margins to about 3in. long. In the summer, cascading clusters of light blue flowers appear followed by wonderfully contrasting orange-yellow berries. The fruit is poisonous to humans, but evidently birds are not affected as they are responsible for seed dispersal. In mild climates this plant can be in flower nearly year round with flowers and fruit appearing at the same time. Hardy to about 20-25 ° F. A good choice for espaliers, as a small tree or large bush; all forms benefit from frequent selective pruning. A great plant for creating dramatic contrast with dark foliage plants.
Attracts butterflies. Heat and drought tolerant.
