Full sun-part shade; low water. California Native. A fast-growing, evergreen shrub or small tree that reaches 10-20ft tall with an equal width. Big, round, 2-3in., dark green leaves. Medium blue flowers in 3-5in.-long spikes that appear in late winter through early spring; flowers have a bit of a fragrance. Performs admirably as a focal point or screen. Tolerates clay as well as light, sandy soil; can grow in almost any soil. Very drought tolerant. Thrives in cool coastal gardens but also tolerates inland heat. Hardy to 10 degrees F.
