Full sun; regular water. Perennial native to open eucalyptus forests in western Australia. Thick rootstocks send up clumps to 2-3ft tall and wide of dark green, smooth, swordlike evergreen leaves. Tall stems to 4-6ft tall, bear striking, fuzzy, tubular large flowers in bright red, curved at tips; tips split into six segments. Flowers attract hummingbirds. Bloom from late spring to fall if spent flowering spikes are cut to ground. Good cut flowers. Prefers light sandy soil or heavier soil with good drainage.
