Full sun-part shade; little to moderate water. Evergreen shrub, grows to 1-3ft high and 3-4ft wide, spreading by underground stems when cold weather arrives. One of the best mahonias for winter color: dull blue-green holly-like leaves turn bronzy or pinkish in winter. Short clusters of bright yellow flowers in mid- to late spring are followed by blue ornamental berries. Good ground cover and for erosion control. Deer resistant.
