Full sun-part shade; little to occasional irrigation. California Native. Evergreen, dense, mounding shrub to 4-6ft tall and 5-8ft wide; grows rapidly in favorable conditions. The shiny foliage is coppery red when new, maturing to bright green. Attractive pinkish-white flowers appear in short clusters in spring. Mature red-brown bark sheds to reveal new honey-brown-colored bark; new stems are covered with fine white hairs. An adaptable plant well suited for low-maintenance landscaping. Excellent foundation plant. Tolerates sand and clay. Drought tolerant. Hardy to around 5 degrees F.
