Each Alebrije is made by by artist Jara Avila Hernandez.
The work of making an Alebrije consists of carving unique pieces on a copal wood base, using only machetes and knives, all according to the imagination of the carver.
Each piece has to dry since the wood is carved in green, then we proceed to sand with Sandpaper of different grains to remove traces of knife and machete. We continue to cure the piece to be able to paint it later and be exhibited. The entire process can take up to a year depending on the size of the piece.
